An Azure-winged Magpie (Pie bleue, Cyanopica cyana) flew across the main road from Agadir to Taroudant (close to the airport) on 4 June (Peter Castell). If confirmed, this would be a first for Morocco – a record at Tangier in January 2002 has not been substantiated.
‘The bird merely flew across the main road and I did not fully realise the significance until I arrived home. I am very familiar with this species in Spain, so I am sure of the ID. In any event I cannot think of a species present in this part of Morocco with which I might have been confused’ (Peter Castell, in mail)
