Great recent records in the Atlantic Sahara once again:
At Oued Chebeika, two Red-footed Falcons (adult males, 23 May – 3rd record of this species in the Atlantic Sahara) and a nest of Kentish Plover in the open desert on the plateau surrounding the oued, at c. 1 km inland – fairly far away from the traditional breeding site (27 May)
At Khnifiss on 26 May, a nest of Common Tern with 3 eggs on the Great Black-backed Gull island (only three previous breeding records there: colony of c 50 pairs in Jun 1967, and breeding probably occurred in 1985 and 1986), 4 pairs of Great Black-backed Gull (still incubating, no young yet), 2 adult Lesser-Crested Terns in breeding plumage within a group of 600 Sandwich Terns (mainly immatures), and a pair of Common Redshank actively alarming on a vegetated island: I think these birds had chicks (first likely breeding evidence of this species in Morocco) .

De nouvelles observations intéressantes dans le Sahara Atlantique :
A l’Oued Chebeika, présence de 2 mâles adultes de Faucon kobez le 23 mai (troisième mention de l’espèce dans le Sahara Atlantique), et découverte d’un nid de Gravelot à collier interrompu en plein désert sur le plateau, mais à presque 1 km de l’Oued le 27 mai,
A Khniffis le 26 mai, preuve de reproduction de la Sterne pierregarin sur l’îlot cailloteux où nichent les Goélands marins (1 nid avec 3 oeufs ; il n’y a que 3 mentions précédentes de reproduction à Khnifiss : une colonie de 50 couple en juin 1967, et reproduction probable en 1985 et 1986), 4 Goélands marins couvant sur l’îlot (pas encore de poussins), 2 Sternes voyageuses adultes en plumage nuptial au milieu d’un groupe de 600 sternes caugeks (principalement immatures), un couple de Chevaliers gambettes alarme activement sur un îlot végétalisé : je pense que ces oiseaux avaient des poussins au vu de leur comportement (serait le premier cas de nidification de l’espèce au Maroc).
