Fascinant : le suivi migratoire d’un jeune Busard pâle (Pallid Harrier, Circus macrourus) finlandais

 

In late June 2015, Potku, a female Pallid Harrier (Circus macrourus) breeding in Utajärvi, Northern Ostrobothnia, Finland was fitted with GPS/GSM transmitter. The Pallid Harrier is still a rare breeding species in Finland; the main breeding area covers the steppes of Russia and Kazakhstan.

In recent years a growing number of Pallid Harriers have been observed in France and Spain between September and April. This leads one to guess whether some of the birds breeding in Finland might opt for this migration route instead of the well-known route through the Middle East.

 

La carte interactive de suivi migratoire montre une migration par l’ouest européen et africain et une traversée du Maroc du 23 au 28 septembre 2015 lors de son premier trajet postnuptial. Potku a hiverné en Mauritanie et dans le nord du Sénégal, puis est remontée par l’est du Bas Draa le 26 mars 2016, a franchi le Haut Atlas le lendemain et le Détroit de Gibraltar le 29 mars. Son arrivée en Finlande n’a eu lieu que le 29 avril 2016.

Sa deuxième migration postnuptiale l’a amenée, encore une fois, jusque dans le nord du Maroc : elle est arrivée près de Meknès le 23 septembre 2016.
