This sunday 8 April I found a female Wood Duck Aix sponsa not far from Salé (34.0096342,-6.7846745): https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S44391772. The bird was not ringed and as far as I could see had the wings in good condition (i.e. no clippings), but it was partially hiding in the vegetation and never showed the wings fully (but see one of the pictures where the right wing seems to have the primaries in good condition). When I approached it took to swimming with the other ducks (Mallards and Ferruginous Ducks), getting some distance from me and disappearing in the vegetation. I wonder whether it can be a true vagrant pushed here by the ongoing westerly winds or an escape from a collection (Pedro Fernandes)

Comme le signale Pedro, il se peut que cet ce Canard branchu soit d’origine sauvage : six autres espèces de canards américains ont déjà été observées au Maroc : le Fuligule à bec cerclé (Aythya collaris, Ring-necked Duck), le Fuligule à tête noire (Aythya affinis, Lesser Scaup), la Sarcelle cannelle (Spatula cyanoptera, Cinnamon Teal), la Sarcelle à ailes bleues (Spatula discors, Blue-winged Teal), le Canard à front blanc (Mareca americana, American Wigeon), et la Sarcelle à ailes vertes (Anas carolinensis, Green-winged Teal).
Le Canard branchu est un migrateur partiel dont une partie des effectifs atteint le nord du Mexique en hiver. Il a été rencontré aux Açores (une femelle en janvier 1985 avait été baguée en Caroline du Nord en novembre 1984 ; une donnée précédente de décembre 1963, peut-être aussi d’origine transatlantique), Islande (deux en avril 1984, un mâle en octobre-novembre 1994) et en Alaska. Une mention aux Canaries en décembre 1995 est d’origine inconnue. Plusieurs observations en Europe, par exemple en Norvège, Finlande, Pologne, République tchèque, Bulgarie, Roumanie et Espagne concernent probablement des échappés de collections (Carboneras, C. & Kirwan, G.M. 2018.
