Abstract:

Breeding of the Eurasian Sparrowhawk in the Central Atlantic plains of Morocco.

In Morocco, the Eurasian Sparrowhawk Accipiter nisus breeds mainly in the northern part of the country from the Tangier peninsula, the Rif, Zaër and Zemmour, Saïs, and from here along a narrow band on the northern and eastern parts of the High Atlas until the Atlantic Ocean. A relatively isolated population also exists in the Oriental region. Here we report the successful nesting of a pair in a Eucalyptus windbreak trees in Oualidia, Doukkala region. This is the first breeding of the species in this region and the Central Atlantic plains.
