Abstract:

First observation of the reproduction of the White-headed Duck Oxyura leucocephala in an urban wetland: El Oulfa pond (Casablanca).

This note describes the first breeding of the Endangered White-headed Duck at an artificial urban wetland, El Oulfa pond, in Casablanca, Morocco. At least 6 broods have been recorded, with the number of ducklings ranging from 1 to 6 per brood. This breeding event and the recent observation of the species during the breeding season at Oued Ikem, located south of Rabat, may indicate that the White-headed Duck is undergoing a slight rang expansion by colonising new sites.
